I don’t want to pay for my 990 right now. Can I still file an extension for free?

If you prefer not to pay for your Form 990 at this time, you can still file Form 8868 by paying the standard extension fee. Later, when you return to file your 990 with us, we’ll credit the amount you paid for the extension toward your 990 filing—so you don’t pay twice.
