When is an organization required to file Schedule M along with its Form 990?

Organizations that need to furnish information on the type of noncash contributions received for the current tax year must file and attach Form 990 Schedule M.

Schedule M has to be attached with Form 990 only when the organization performs any of the following activity:

  • Reports more than $25,000 of aggregate noncash contributions for the tax year.

  • Received any noncash contributions in the form of art, historical treasures, or other similar assets, or qualified conservation contributions, regardless of whether it reported any revenues for such contributions in Part VIII of Form 990.

However, there's no need to report noncash contributions received by the organization in a prior year (or) donations of services and materials; donated use of facilities and equipment.

The Schedule M will be automatically generated if required while filing your
Form 990 using the 'Interview-Based' filing in Tax990.

If your organization is required to report schedules other than A, B, and G, we recommend choosing our interview-based filing method.
